Hi,
I have a server that was originally running nt40. It has veritas 7.2 installed on it, and it was working fine. The server got upgraded to Windows 2000 server, and veritas continued to work fine. I had to uninstall veritas on the server to correct a problem. When I go to re-install the backup software, it say it will only run on windows nt40, and will not run on nt5. Anybody know of a way that I can install this software so I can access my backup tapes?

Thanks

BE7 is not supported on Win2k. I've heard of other people that have taken an upgrade path on their NOS that didn't need to upgrade BE as well, but the first time something happened to their data Veritas disclaimed any responsibility due to incompatabilities in the programs.

By that time, it was too late.

The reason it worked temporarily is that in an upgrade there are different processes at work. The upgrade installation of a NOS is more forgiving of files/folders/programs that already exist on the system.

When you do a fresh install of BE (any version) the first thing the install program does is a system compatibility test, way before you're asked for any license keys.

In essence...Windows doesn't have a problem with Veritas, it's the other way around.

As far as I know, Veritas 8.0 is the first version that will work with Win2k, and their latest version family is 9.x, so you would probably be better off upgrading anyway.

Hope this helps.

P.S. - Having said all that, you could down-grade back to NT4, reinstall BE 7.x and then re-upgrade to W2k. I would NEVER recommend doing that, but at least you know all of the options.
