Hi,

we are using 11d to backup our exchange server, we have an exchange agent. The question I have, is it normal that the stm and edb files don't show up as backed up on the tapes. They are greyed out in the selection list but have a line through them like they are selected.
Problem is that I tried to restore exchange to a test server and there is nothing there, then if I try and restore the Information Stores it says resource dosen't exist - I'm figuring it means the database files.
Symantec just say that if you have the Information Store selected that is enough (which I would agree with if it was a restore to a recovery group but I'm trying to rebuild the entire server), when we used 9.1 we always used to restore the stm and edb database files first and never had any problems.
Can someone that uses the software let me know how the selections should be?

thanks,

Chris

Symantec is correct. If you're attempting to restore databases, you should read about Recovery Storage Group in Exchange.

No need to select the .edb and .stm files, nor do a brick level backup (don't select the mailboxes)

You will need to reinstall exchange and create the IS. Then the restore should work. In the later versions of backup exec it should be skipping the edb and stm files by default
