What is the best way to backup Encrypted files on XP Pro so that I can restore them onto another XP Pro machine? I am specifically talking about 50 MB of encrypted data. If I use the Backup utility (the one that comes with XP)to create a .bkf file, can I take that .bkf file over to the other machine and restore it to an encrypted directory?

Thanks for the reply - there is alot of information in those links. But, there are very few details about restore procedures. What should I use to backup my encrypted data? When restoring encrypted data, is all I need the Certificate imported on the destination machine? Do I need to log in as the same user and password? I can find plenty of information on EFS, but not much on restoring encrypted data.

You will also find some good info using XP's Help & Support to look for recovery agent

Unless you are a member of a Domain, the local Administrator (not Administrator privileged user) is the backup recovery agent.

Reboot in Safe Mode as Administrator.
