Hi,

when I try to backup my domain server with BACKUP EXEC 9, I don't see in the list "Active directory" of system state.

My server is not in the same domain as the server on which is installed backup exec.
I ve already install the remote agent and it works fine.

Do I need to install open file to backup active directory ?
Or is there another tips to backup it ?

thanks in advance

Make sure that you are using the latest build of Backup Exec 9. I think the latest build is 4454. Also, make sure you are using the latest SCSI and TAPE DEVICE drivers. There is a service pack as well that you will need to apply after you install the revision 4454 of Backup Exec.

If your backup server is Windows 2003, then you will need everything I described above.

Also, you will need the ADVANCED OPEN FILE OPTION to successfully backup a domain controller. If you have SQL, you need the SQL option, etc. Check with Veritas Technical Support to verify you have the proper licenses and software to backup your domain controller.

there is no service pack after 4454 build, just hotfixes, about 20 of them.

and you don't need the advanced open file option to successfully backup a domain controller - whoever told you that is just trying to take money from you.

Oops, I wrote service pack, but I meant hotfix. My mistake.

As far as the open file option goes, I may be mistaken about that. If you don't have the open file option tho, don't you get a lot of cannot backup file errors because they are in use?

you do, depending what you have running on your server - they are usually log files which are open, DHCP, DNS, WINS, IIS one - these aren't really needed for a restore of a domain controller.

Hi all,

I ve updated my backup exec... and the problem is still here... Anyone has got an explanation for it ?

the active directory is not in the list...

again, I will ask, do you see it in Ntbackup.

also this server is a DC isn't it? if it's not, it will not have an active directory in system state.

hi...

I see it in NTBACKUP, but not in Backup Exec.

My server is a DC.Otherwise I haven't AD.

Have you got an idea ?
