We want to write a database that will Repair/Compact/Copy another database every night at a given time...

Has anyone done this before and can advise?

Thanks in advance,

There are 3rd party products that do this. Im not sure if your goal is to write your own code, or just perform the task.

If its the latter, you may be interested in a freeware program called mdb task. It is an agent program that performs scheduled maintenence on access mdb's. You can use it to do some other stuff also. I have used it minimally (once a week compact and backup on a relatively small mdb) with no problems.

It generates a log of errors and transactions.

You can download it at :

Why don't you run
"c:\progra...\msaccess.exe" /repair /compact "database.mdb"
in a scheduler
