Local Win2K server w/Brighstor 9 will not back up files located on the local machine. The backups complete with no errors or warnings. However the total files backed up = 0, though the directory structure will be backed up. Backs up remote files with no problems. Only errors found are:

1. Unable to spawn C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\\MergeCat.exe as user - PRIVILEGE NOT HELD.(EC=1314)

2. ERROR : LoadLibrary( [drcfgdll.dll] ) failed. Failed to copy drif files to alternate machine. Error Code : [126]

mergecat is related to merging backup data into the database, and might be caused by a problem with the ARCserve System account. The other is related to the collection of disaster recovery information.

Sounds like it might be a corrupt installation.

Hello
I have a similar problem to the original one. I do not think the two error messages are anything to do with it. Did you solve this problem? If so, then how.

1. Unable to spawn C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\\MergeCat.exe as user - PRIVILEGE NOT HELD.(EC=1314)

This certainly sounds like a problem with the system account. If it is a domain account make sure it has log on local priviledges on the server.

2. ERROR : LoadLibrary( [drcfgdll.dll] ) failed. Failed to copy drif files to alternate machine. Error Code : [126]

This error (126) will only appear if the file (drcfgdll.dll) is missing. It looks like somebody deleted the file or moved it. The easiest solution for this problem is to reinstall either DRO or all of ARCserve.

I would like to thank Acidelic for replying. When I added to this thread I hoped to convey that I had the first part of DustyDevil problem ("Local Win2K server w/Brighstor 9 will not back up files located on the local machine. The backups complete with no errors or warnings. However the total files backed up = 0, though the directory structure will be backed up. Backs up remote files with no problems. ") but not his/her two accompanying errors (1314 and 126). Therefore, I do not think I have exactly the same problem as DustyDevil. And actually, our problem relates to v7 of Arcserve2000, not v9. I did try to raise a support call with CA, but this was refused as the product is out of support. We are currently investigating the following solution: Replace Arcserve with a competitor's product.

I've never seen that behavior before.

Are you specifying an administrator or backup operator account for the local machine?
Have you applied ARCserve 2000 SP5? That patch has many fixes and you should have it applied to your machines.

I am having the EXACT same problem.

Did you ever find a fix?

My back-ups report no errors but only back up the directory structure - no files in it.

Actually, PALC's problem is identical to mine too. DustyDevil got some errors but I got no errors reported.

PALC (and maybe DustyDevil) - I have the solution. It worked for me:

As it turns out, ArcServe 2000 uses BITS (the Background Intelligent Transfer Service).
There are also other applications that use the BITS service (SMS Advanced client for instance).

I don't have SMS client but when I looked at my "installed programs" on the server, I see that BITS 1.5 has been installed. BINGO.

Microsoft KB Article 833180 tells me which REGISTRY KEY to look for and what to change it to.

This is 1 way to do the fix. I believe ArcServe 2000 SP5 would do the same thing. Also, I think a full removal and re-install of ArcServe would reset the registry key back to the preferred BITS settings.
