I'm in the process of trying to send out a registry fix to a client but want to call the .reg file from a batch file. Before it calls the reg file, I want it to back up the registry just in case the registry fix doesn't work.

I've looked everywhere and only found how to do it manually. I'd prefer not have the client do the editing through Regedit as they are not very tech savvy.

The fix in question is the "cannot load word for windows 6.0 files" which the Microsoft KB puts down to a registry fix here.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.

Try using REG EXPORT (syntax from /? on a cmd line) .... I thonk this would allow you to export the bit you intend to edit rather than the whole registry.

Superb, worked a treat.

The client's happy with the fixed and your suggestion meant the minimum sized risk to damaging the registry (Which didn't happen thankfully).

Many thanks again.
