Is it possible to back up a NAM and then Restore to a different NAM? Or is there a serial issue with doing this

You can back up the programming as long as you are Fiber to Fiber and or copper to copper. As far as the Capabilities file, Nope. I did this once and I had to repurchase KeyCodes through Nortel.

Thanks for the Info. What I am actually trying to do is edit the COS on the 1st NAM and it doesn't have a Network connection. What I want to do is back up and restore to the 2nd NAM that does have a Network connection. I want to change the COS on the restored NAM (NAM 2) and then Back Up and restore to the 1st NAM. They are both Fiber and Both are 4.0. But the orginal has 6 channels enabled and the 2nd NAM only has 2 channels enabled. Will I loose the enabled channels on the 1st NAM when I restore? I don't have the Key Codes for the 1st NAM.

Why don't you direct connect using the Null modem cable to port B?

You will only lose your channels if you restore another NAM's capability file onto a different one. The Serial number is mirrored to the Motherboard.

I have tried to access the system using the serial connection but I can't seem to get that to work. I have asked for info on this from a number of sources without any luck. I got so far as to have an IP connection using the serial null modem method. But then I can't get into the Voicemail Manager program.

How can you restore without restoring the capabilities file? And does the capabilities file include the COS info?

If the NAM is R4.1 you can edit COS through the phone. Login to F983, press the MBOX button, then press either 1 or 2 (brain fart) to access the COS menu. Enter the COS to be edited and then scroll through to change the desired settings.

Thanks for the info Brian. But it is a 4.0. I got the info on the 4.1 option previously(althought I haven't tried it). I think you have to press 1.

4.0 to 4.1 is a free upgrade just go to nt web site and download

ski season has started

Do you know what the procedure would be to upgrade?

I have a cics, with a couple of m7410 cordless's and am now trying to replace one of the 7410's with a t7406.(this is in a house) I have mounted the base on a wall in the center of the living room, when in the living room, it gets fine reception, but as soon as i just step into the hallway muchless the office the handset reads "out of range" and of course puts itself "on hold" untill i step back into the living room.i thought a 7406 was suoosed to be better reception than a 7410.what am I missing?
