Hello All,

I have an issue that I would like to put to you all out there. What if my backup server crashes and and I have to replace the Hard Disk. Will I still be able to restore from my back-up tapes even if the restore selections will no longer appear on the newly installed versin of Back-up Exec? What can I do if I am such a situation?

Liam

You will have to catalog the tapes you want to restore from. This will rebuild the restore selection window. Running a catalog job takes a long time.

If you were to put all the BE program databases on a tape then you would only ever have to catalog one tape.

Thanks for the info LawnBoy,

So which program databases would i have to back up and which tape would I have to catalog?

Liam

Which databases depends on what version/platform you're using. The Veritas knowledgebase will tell you.

If those databases are archived to tape, that's the tape you would want to catalog. After cataloging, you can restore the databases and have all your info on the other tapes restored without having to catalog them as well.
