I recently had to use my Windows ME recovery disk. It straightened most of the stuff up, but now over 3/4 of the time when I hit my back button, it doesn't work or (honestly) takes about 3 to 4 minutes to finally go back. It does the same thing on links that I click on. I have a dial up connection if that helps. This is VERY frustating when searching for information. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. [smile]

Which browser are you using? In IE5.5 ot IE6 tools, internet options, temporary files,
click on delete files, the same for history. Then run system disk cleaner.
Netscape, edit, preferences, advanced, cache and delete both,
Then go to netscape clear history and clear location bar.
Then go to settings, taskbar, click start menu tab, under documents and Menu click on the clear button.
See if that might speed it up if not crtl+alt+del and see what is running. It could be you have a program running slow your surfing down. If you are running McAfee and have the system tab fully turn off your surf will now become crawling.
I usually disable system scan when I'am surfing and only run internet scan and download.

I'm signed up with Compu Serve, so it's their browser that is being used. I went to the start up screen and all that is checked is "Scan Reg., PC Health, System Tray, StateMgr."
I can't seem to find anything else running, but the slowness is getting worse. My computer is a HP pavilion xl866, 128mg, 60gb hard drive. I didn't have this problem until I downloaded a updated version of explorer (even though I don't use it now, I have in the past). It totally screwed my computer up. I had no desktop icons and it locked it up. I uninstalled the update, but it is still screwed up. Any suggestions are SOOOOOO appreciated. [bigsmile]
