Hi everyone,

My boss would like me to create a report that shows a graph
of the number of applicants by the price range bands they are looking for a property in ie number of applicants looking for properties between 0-250000k, number looking for properties between 250001k-500000k etc etc

That part is easy for me to achieve. I have a table called ApplicantDetails which contains a list of all the applicants and the price ranges they are looking for their properties in.

What I am trying to achieve:

In addition to the basic bar graph my boss wants me to add a trend line to the same graph showing the number of properties valued in each price band.

I have a table PropertyDetails which contains the details of all the properties and the price bands they are in.

Is it possible to add a trend line to the graph showing the number of properties valued in each price range so that comparisons can be made between the number of applicants searching in a particular price band and the actual numbers of properties available ?

I don't see an option that will allow me to do this in Crystal Advanced 9 but I don't want to assume it isn't possible just because I can't find the right graph template. Any help on this will be very welcome.

Thanks

Nassy

I'm not exactly what you intend in your bar chart, but while in the preview mode of a report, select a bar and then right click it and select Trendlines.

I don't think that what you are describing is a trendline, but instead, another y-axis value. I don't know whether a bar and line chart is available in CR 9.0, but if not, you might try using a line chart, using two summary fields, one for number of applicants and one for number of properties, with price range as your "on change of" field.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. Sorry to confuse people with the term 'trend line'.. I suppose this isn't the correct term as 'trend' implies 'over time'. Ibass has it spot on though in terms of what I want to do. Indeed my graph does have two summary fields - one for applicant details and one for property details whereas the price range is used as the on change of field.

At the moment the figures for number of applicants and number of properties are shown side by side as two separate bars:eek:ne blue the other orange. I realise I could also have two different lines to show the comparisons. What I wanted however - just because I thought it would look more attractive - was a hybrid chart showing one of the summaries as a bar and the other summary as a line.

Since this option does not appear to exist in Crystal 9 do you know if it would help to use a Custom Chart? If not then no worries as I am sure my boss will accept that either I can use two sets of lines or two sets of bars but not a mixture of. It isn't really a huge deal but I just want to understand a bit more of where exactly Crystal 'limitations' lie.

Thanks guys again for your help. Really do appreciate it!

You absolutely CAN create a chart that combines a bar and a line. First create a bar graph. Then select the bar that you want to turn into a line. Right-Menu ChartOptions->Series and then change the "always show selected riser as" combobox to LINE.

Also you can add an aribtrary line on the Y-axis graph, by Doing RIght-Menu ChartOptions->Grids. THen selecting GRIDS Tab and then selecting "Draw custom Line at" option.
