I am upgrading an older PC for a young person.

The PC (made in 1995) has an "AIR" (54cpi) motherboard with AWARD bios (code # 2A59CU2H), which does not support a disk type of CD ROM.

I would like to have Windows 98se support the CD-ROM is 32 bit native mode, rather that 16 bit compatibility mode.

Can someone help with where to download the bios update that I could flash, or maybe some other suggestion.

I have tried to find the motherboard manufacturer's web site (which I think is but even though there is a DNS entry there is no response.

Thank you for any assistance,

For a board this old, and off-brand, there is likely no upgrade available. Sorry. You might want to check this link: . The BIOS Wizard found here can tell you a lot about the BIOS and was designed in regards to Award BIOS updates. However, have you tried setting the entry in the BIOS to AUTO? If it is IDE, the BIOS should see it while booting, and Windows should load its own drivers for the CDROM, so long as you are not loading them in the CONFIG.SYS.

Thank you.

I have tried your suggestion regarding the BIOS wizard yesterday, but when I downloaded the wizard application, the application does not display (show) any of the keyboard input, so I cannot enter any of the details. A bug?????

The BIOS is set to "Auto" but it does not recognise the CD-ROM like more modern BIOS's do. It does however recognise the fixed hard disk.

Any assitance would be appeciated.

Thanks.

MOst award Bios' have flash upgrades avail thru award, the only drawback is the company that now owns award makes the "user" pay for the flash upgrade. but they do posses upgrades for even OLD bios' like 386 and 486 types even. I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.

When you lose your way - do a google search :)) Which revealed that airwebs (Advanced Inmtegration Reseach, Inc) went out of business, and merged with Giga-Byte. Also revealed this link which may be of some help.

I suggest you run a Google search for Airwebs, as it produces a whole heap of useful (maybe) links for you.
