.avi files won't play - Required Compressor Not Found

I read a previous post regarding the error "Required Compressor Not Found", but there never was a solution. I'm getting the same error on .avi files. I downloaded the latest version of QuickTime, and restarted my computer, but I'm still getting that error. Does anyone know the solution?

You may need the DIVX, XVID or some other codec. Search google or goto

and in their TOOLS section, you can download a program that tells you exactly what codecs are used by the avi.
