For about a month now I have noticed in task manager that avgrssvc.exe is taking up anywhere from 40MB to 60MB of memory. this is CONSTANT. it never stops or goes down. This seems excessive. I recently switched to Vonage and have the Vonage router in-between my cable modem and my computer. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it. Like AVG is constantly scanning packets or something. It seems like its been happening ever since I got Vonage, but it could be a coincidence. At any rate is this normal for avgrssvc to be taking up that much memory?

I also have AVG on my machine, and avgrssvc.exe is also currently 66MB according to the task manager. I'm fairly sure this is normal.

Also, AVG does not do any packet scanning, so it is probably not related to switching to switching to Vonage.

All of our machines are using about 400-500K of memory, so about 1/130th of the memory yours are using.

We are however using the network edition, but I wouldn't have thought that would make too much difference unless you were performing an update.

Carlsberg don't run I.T. departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

The behavior you are describing, for products that integrate anti-spyware detection, is normal. You will not see this behavior with anti-virus only products.

The other reply is correct on Vonage also, AVG doesn't scan traffic in that manner - the resident engine scans for threats in memory and on disk, while the email scanning components scan your email (either via proxy, or plugin) for threats.

Hope this helps.
