Hi everybody,

We have deployed an Avaya IP Office Solution and we can't make working the music on hold. I tried everything found here on this forum, but not succeed.

I have a Server Edition (Principal) and a IP Office 500 V2 (Expansion) 9.1.400 build 137.

When I dial *34# from an analogue device declared on the IP Office 500 V2 : the music on hold works.

When I dial *34# or place a call on hold from a H323 or a SIP phone declared on the Server Edition : the music on hold doesn't work.

So I tried everything, the TFTP method or uploading the file into "/system/primary" or in "/tones" with different spelling "HoldMusic.wav" "Holdmusic.wav" "holdmusic.wav" and rebooting : None of these has worked.
The Server Edition "Tone&Music" tab is configured on "WAV"
I even took the original wav file from IP Office 500 V2 it doesn't work neither.

Please, can someone help me ?

Sounds like you've loaded the HoldMusic.wav file to the IP500 okay, but not to the Primary. Are you getting an error on System Status?

Tanks for the reply.

Wow, System Status... what a great tool for debugging ! They didn't show me this during my training.

Ok, so I have an error "Failed to load Hold Music source file" but no more explanation.

I try to configure the TFTP again and see if this error disappear. But I know that the TFTP works because I could see logs in the TFTP server saying that the download of HoldMusic.wav was successful. I think that the problem is somewhere else.

Edit:

So... the problem is somewhere else.

I have configured the TFTP server and cleared the alarm in System Status and rebooted the Server Edition.

I see the TFTP server telling me that the file HoldMusic.wav was succesfully downloaded.

In system status I still has the alarm "Failed to load Hold Music source file"

Hum.... the Server Edition is still trying to download it through TFTP each 5 minutes.

I solved it !

I forgot to told that I didn't want to change the Avaya default music on hold.
[ul]
[li]The default Music on Hold works on the IP Office 500 V2.[/li]
[li]The default Music on Hold didn't worked on the Server Edition.[/li]
[/ul]

So I tried to copy the default MOH from the IP Office and past it into the Server Edition.

I found a work around and this is WTF I don't understand why the wav format of the IP Office is not the same as the wav format of the Server Edition.

holdmusic.wav from IP Office 500 V2 is at 22050 Hz (1.25 MB)
I had to convert it with VLC to 8000 Hz (400 kB)

I'm on it since 1 week..... :/

Thank you for the help anyway

The music on the ip office should have been 8KHz already. That is the specification. I've had very odd results (either weird audio, or it wont play at all) unless it matches the requirements. 16bit, 8KHz, mono, PCM, WAV.

I used to be an ACE. Now I'm just an Arse.

Sure, the music on the IP Office should be at 8000 Hz. I don't know why the actual file is at 22050 Hz..... that's weird.

Where did you find the Avaya standard holdmusic? There is no.

I don't know, it was already there when I was asked to finish the deployment. So, I think it was uploaded by the guy who was in charge at the first time (he doesn't work for us anymore, I can't ask him...)
