i'M LOOKING TO SETUP INTERNAL DIALING BETWWEN 3 SITES ALL SITES ARE CONNECTED BY A MANAGED VPN SO THE NETWORK IS INPLACE.

WE WILL BE INSTALLING 3 IP 406V2 WITH THE LATESET 3.1 SOFTWARE AND 5410 HANDSETS WITH ABOUT 100 USERS.

is there anything i should watch out for when configuring this setup.

all site to site call will be over the LAN/WAN

What do i need to configure in under

Line
Shortcode
and
IP Route

etc any help would be gratfull.

First make sure you can ping all of the ipo's if not you will need to setup ip routes under the ip route menu in ipo.

Next you will have to make voice over ip trunks with the h450 support turned on.

the you will have to make short codes to call from site to site.

If you are using centralized vm pro all of the switches will need rebooted.

Make sure that your topology is a star. meaning your middle site will have 2 vpn trunks one to each spoke, the end sites will only have one back to the middle.

Lastly make sure all of the names, ext numbers, hunt group names and numbers are different for each switch.

ie
site a 1000 -1099
site b 1100 - 1199
site c 1200 - 1299

You won't need to build the shortcodes if Voice Networking is enabled (Small Community Networking). When active on all sites, the systems trade databases with each other so they know what users are available on each site. They don't trade Hunt Group info, so those you'll have to point with shortcodes.

Hope this helps...

I am curious. Did Avaya do a network assesment? Do other vendors have Avaya do Network Assesments? Am I correct in saying that Avaya wont service the sites unles there was an assesment done?

telecomtekperson (Vendor)

If you can afford it then you can get avaya to do a network assesment a site servey is £2000 + the rest and avaya support on a site is worse. Do you think they will do site visits to see problems that we all know happens.

Think of all the things they have asked us to do in the pass monitor traces and softconsole logs, Oh this wasn't captured can you do this again with these options.

DTE Trace from the back of the unit along with a monitior trace.

Avaya will come on site but only if they have exhausted every other possible solution. I had them on a 3 site scn that was having major problems. We had no network assesment done, but they still came out and helped us identify some bug problems.

I've never had avaya do an assessment. I didn't see the need. For the most part, the basic rules of VoIP apply. If you can prove your latency is within spec, you should be good.

A T1 or T2 tech may hint to that as a requirement, but you can easily tell them they're full of it and have them escellate.

Hope this helps...
