Last month, I asked if I could link an Asterisk to an Avaya IP Office on the same network. Now the Asterisk is going to be decommissioned, replaced with a spare Cisco 1760 Router with CME 4.1. It can route H323, and I have an IP Office that has an ATM card (16 channels) that possibly route these two systems together. To make it easier, I use the IPO for digital/DCP/2500 sets and the Cisco would be handling any VOIP sets in the network.

Is it possible and if so can you give me easy to understand steps into linking these guys together?

Hope everyone is enjoying the long Independence Day weekend!

bumping this question anyone who can give me clear guide to properly set this up would be much appreciated!

Might work, might not. that 1760 is seriously old, it went EOL in 2007.
link hereLinkexplains how to do it with a real call manager.
and link here explains how to set up CME to Avaya CM.
Maybe you can merge this into something useful.
I don't know your situation, but I would have serious doubts on putting such a setup into a production environment.
A C29xx CME router Connected to a 500V2 with SIP maybe..

Actually before you start to push me to some newer and inferior system for the sake of pushing me - actually some of the IOS software is a few years old. Cisco IOS is insecure to begin with IMO regardless how old.

This isn't going to help because the said links refer to the large scale systems (Avaya CM and Cisco CM) which are somewhat different than IPO and CME. The latter two are apps of their larger siblings to make it easier to understand.

I think I am better off going Avaya DCP so I don't have to do forklift upgrades, because $IP is so darn pricey in licenses.

Thanks

DCP is even more pricely as the DS modules are very expensive.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

^

There is a thing you know called the second hand (or the third hand market) too...

That applies to VOIP too :)

^ I haven't had luck finding licenses that wouldn't break the piggy bank... :/

Soemtimes complete systems are sold but yes licenses is a different challenge.
