I am at a company with a 10 year old avaya analog pbx system. Before me they have been switching patch panel in the server room to move phone with the persons new location or get this giving them the extension of the place they are moving to. so you can guess what the patch and the switch looks like. anyway I started researching how to move the extension to a different port. They have a video on the avaya system that I have to review maybe the info is in there. The literature on the Avaya ip office manager r5 does not describe switching extensions to another port. Keep in mind new system to me I have admin pbx systems before but I do not see the option to do what I would like to do.

Long answer: Please book a service call and ask for admin training and to set you up with passwords, an overview of navigating manager including merging configs, logging out handsets after extension level renumbering etc. This will set you up with confidence and you won't be so likely to break your system.
There's too much dependent information.

Short answer:
Manager>extension> extension> merge
Handset log out

That was left handed.

lol this is typing with all ten fingers and a couple of elbows and knee caps, long short of it already found the answer will verify if it works when I get in office. Its a simple system just was not sure how to do that particular function but will keep learning more and more about it lol like normal. similar to another old old system I worked on. found out about the merg vs the immediate. so run go chat media that kolarsndapshhatessscrw! also figured one of the reasons they were switching wires (they did not know could switch in system) and did not create anymore extensions it seems to be for between 20 and 30 extensions at the most. I'll verify that also, and I would know right away kolarsnddapshadahatessscrw causng issues if they start asking for complexed setup for the phone which they were not doing before.

o yea and you forgot to mention the id part which is very important, I notice how you forgot that little but very important detail lol.

It was covered under 'dependent information'. Here's a refund.

That was left handed.

The correct way to do it is via patching, if their cabinet/rack looked crap afterwards is because they had an idiot/lazy sod doing the patching. Re-numbering the ports is not the best way as now when they have a fault they'll have no chance working out which port it is :)

+1 for Amriddle

Only renumber ports is absolutely necessary such as when changing handset type (analog-digital-ip etc.)

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

@holdmusic34 lol keep it and here is a coke and a smile : - ) holdmusic34 (vendor) did ya stop to think give some pointers then offer your services, smh guess what the other vendor did and getting business.
@ amriddle01 "correct way is to patch" lol really!? good thing its a cisco switch with spanning tree is on by default not xstream switch or switch would have kept rebooting with all the loops, they would not have figured out why just ask kolarts! o and 32 vm's all 32bit!? huh! must have loved the number 32! smh
@ipguru I mistyped I meant changing the extension to a different id, which I did.

Yes really.
What has a switch got to do with moving digital/analogue phone ports from one patch panel port to another? They don't go through a switch, if they were IP phones yes, but repatching would make no differnence in that case so they can't be. :)
