I have avaya an ip office 500 v2 with 8.1 software installed.
I have the essential edition license installed as well.

I am trying to add an avaya 9630g IP phone to the system. I am trying to get it to work on the LAN.
I gave the phone a static IP address and can ping it. I can login with the craft password 27238 and change any settings if necessary.

I am unsure of the steps I should take to get the phone on the system.
Does anyone have a knowledge base article or a good how to available to walk me through the setup?

Well lets start with this, do you have the ip endpoint lic?

You also need a VCM card in the system and an extn and user creating :)

The phone system has a combo card which has the VCM part of it covered. I believe the essential edition, IP office 8.1 now includes 4 remote workers. If I need an endpoint license I will happily buy one.
I created an h323 extension. A new user looks like it was created automatically, "NoUser."
I found this information on the web...

Up to four people can work from anywhere with just an Internet connection and an Avaya 9600 series IP Phone

Boot the phone and press * to configure the phone when the message "press * to program" appears
Enter the following data ( not necesserely in this order )
1 IP Address : set the phone IP Address
2 Gateway : set the IP Address of the local gateway or the IP Address of the IP Office if in local subnet
3 Mask : set the mask for the subnet, typically 255.255.255.0
4 CallSrv address : set the IP Office IP address
5 FileSrv address : set the IP Office address
6 VLAN : if not used press # or the VLAN number
7 802.1Q : press #

Phone will reboot when finished, sit and wait until the message "Enter extn:" appears, now enter the extension/user number pre-configured in Manager.
If all is well then the phone is registered and you can call your beloved or you get one of the following:
Extension in use, press # to logon : if this appears and you cannot logon then the extension number is configured on a hardware port, erase the number on the hardware port and try again
Not licensed : you have no Avaya IP Endpoint license in your system and you cannot use the phone
Finding router : go back to step 2 and enter the ip address of the ip office
Anything else : read the 9600 LAN Admin guide ( use google )

I while try that on monday. Thanks

I apologize for the delay. I had a 9630G and I could not find the call srv and file srv address settings I found a regular 9630 phone that phone has those settings and as such I set the settings and sure enough the phone synced with the phone system. I got an error valid license needed emergency phone calls only but it worked..

I ordered a vcm32 card and I believe the card comes with 12 endpoint licenses which I need for all ip phones.

I will keep looking for the 9630g settings.
Thanks for the help.

Why did you buy a VCM32?
An IP endpoint license is much cheaper.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
