Avaya Enhanced Tip/Ring (ETR) Question

Hi,
I'm looking for technical details about how the ETR works on Avaya systems. Does anyone know of any information about it, or is it all stored privately at Avaya?

What exactly are you looking for? If you're looking for data signal coding and such, that's proprietary and you'd have to reverse engineer it to get the info. If you're looking for how it works in the field, how to service it or what its definition is, we could probably assist you.

The basic operation is simple. The first pair is your voice pair. It supplies 2.0 REN I think and works the same as a POTS line. It does not pass caller ID. The second pair is the power / data pair. As 392 indicated, it's an Avaya thing. If you want to get CTI info out, Avaya makes a product that will do that to a serial port. That's called Passageway.

Hey netoguy,
You know, you should play. The adapter Avaya sells connects between the station cable and continues to the phone. The other end goes to your comm port. I'll bet they are shifting the data signal levels in the box and filtering the data with software. Use a 'scope to see what the levels look like. Translate the levels to comm port levels and try hyperterminal to "see" what the data looks like.
It would be easier to just buy the passageway solution.
