We are thinking about picking up some inexpensive used IP telephones for a customer of ours running IP Office 500 R8. I noticed that refurb Avaya 4610SW IP Business Telephones are relatively inexpensive. I have three quick questions:

1) Are these phones compatible with newer versions of IPO?
2) Other than PoE or a power supply, any other equipment required?
3) What is the reliability of these phones?

Thank you!

1) Are these phones compatible with newer versions of IPO?
Yes

2) Other than PoE or a power supply, any other equipment required?
Switch :)

3) What is the reliability of these phones?
Except for some series with the hookswitch issue, very good...

Thank you both. Okkie26, for some of my clients, your answer to #2 definitely would have been necessary! :)
We are a relatively new Avaya reseller - I definitely forgot about the endpoint licenses - thanks!

You need is 4610SW Phone(s), switch, and endpoint license(s)
4610SW IP is a good phone, it has better audio ( in My opinion ) than the 16xx series.
It will work no problem with R7 & R8. I can tell You it also works on R8.1, haven't tried it on R9, but I believe it is supported.

When you pay peanuts then you will get monkeys.
These phones are old and you will be lucky if they last for 3 years.
Some will but some will break too.
I see this every day where these phones just break and need to be replaced.
Some customers do not want to upgrade and even refurbished is getting harder to find.
I do not say that you should not do it, the phones are great but keep in mind that they are old.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Thank you all for your input. If the price is right, I may give them a try.

I have a mix of 4610SW's and 9608's on my R8.1 Server edition. The 4610SW are dying on a daily basis. Hook switch, headset ports and sticking keys to name a few issues with them. I have noticed the majority of them have a Serial number from 2006.
