I'm automating Outlook 97 from foxpro using createobject("outlook.application "

I am adding items into the contacts folder containing email addresses.
My problem is that although the contacts are added, they cannot be seen in the address book, and the check names feature, when sending an email does not recognise any of my contacts entered.
However, I have opened up the contact manually, and noticed that the email address is not underlined, by inserting a space, and then removing that space, and tabbing out of the field, the email address is now underlined and the contact is recognised in the address book.
Has anybody encounted this problem before, and if so , how did you solve it?
I've checked for validate methods on the contact object, etc, but no joy.
Incidentally, Outlook 2000 inserts the contacts without any problems.
