i was wondering if it's possible to bypass the printer dialogue screen and automatically print an html page using the window.print() function (or any other javascript functions)?
Not without using an ActiveX object (which is IE/Windows only) and even then they still have to click "ok" to agree to run the ActiveX object on your page. I think you're pretty much out of luck on this one, but probably with good reason. Imagine a website that you visited that printed 100 pages of junk every time you visited the site without prompting you first.
