Ok, this is probably more simple than I am making it. I have a group of students that I would like to be set as administrators on any XP computer they log into. Is there a quick way, via script, policy, or whatever, to automate the process so that, when they log in, they are setup as administrator users automatically? Thanks so much for your help. Dave

Is this about local users or domain users that you are referring to?

Doesn't sound too secure, but what if you made the Guest User a member of the Administrator's Group. Otherwise every possible username that might log on to any machine would have to be an Administrative user on every machine they may wish to logon to.

Can you use this?

I wonder if there is any use for the NTrights tool as an alternative to what you are trying to achieve (?) by having everyone as an Administrator?

Computer admin question
thread779-973627

Wow, ok. I see how this sounds very unsecure. I should explain more. We are a school district. I have two computer labs. We have kindergarten through eighth grade. Some of the little programs they use require administrative rights so that the goofy things will run. I have most log in with a generic acct. that has administrative rights. However, with the junior high kids, I need to be able to track their activity. The software I use tracks login name. If they all log in with the generic name, I can't tell who did what. So, they all have domain accts. But, I need them to be administrators on the computer lab's 40 machines. I just didn't want to have to load the list manually to all of the computers and was hoping to save time. I hope this clarifies. Dave

Check this out:

Create a domain group "Deviant Junior High Kids" and add that as a local admin on the lab machines using the policy. Beware - this setting will overwrite any accounts currently on the machine (I.E. it will remove Domain Admins from the group - make sure you have everybody you want as an admin in the list also)

As this seems to be a problem involving running programs with administrative rights, a possible alternative solution might be achievable.

Member Greg Palmer has written a special program that might help you solve this without having hundreds of Administrators.

There is also this but it might be not suitable.
