Hi,

Using Windows 98 SE

On some computers I click on start\shut down the computer and the entire computer shuts down. That is fine.

On others, it will not shut down but will inform me it is safe to close the computer.

Why ?

Thank you

LW

Fast shutdown has been disabled on the computers that do not shutdown right when you select it. There is a way to disable or enable this feature.
Click Start , point to Programs , point to Accessories , point to System Tools , and then click System Information .
On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility .
On the General tab, click Advanced .
Click to select the Disable/Enable Fast Shutdown check box, click OK , and then click OK .
Click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

Continuous shutdown (without notice "It is safe...) is possible with the later ATX power supply.

I am running on Win98 and the shut-down mode that I have is automatic. Now the one thing I am not really sure of is the monitor. The hardrive itself shuts down automaticaly but Im not sure of the monitor. Should I press the monitor off or just leave it because it seems like it does shut down automaticaly but for all this time I do it on my own. The monitor that is. Does anyone know.

Have you gone to Settings>Control Panel>Power? You can control the monitor power down there.
