Imagine a form with a combobox at the top which displays some names and has ID numbers that are not displayed. Clicking on a name displays information about that person. If the user wants to advance to the next name, he/she has to click on the dropdown, then click on the next name. It would be more convenient to add to this form Next and Previous buttons to do the same thing with only 1 click. (The combobox is still needed so the user can go direcly to any name desired.)

I have done just that on a few of my forms, but I have always had to use an array to achieve this.

Does anyone know an easier, more general way to program these Next/Previous buttons?

quite easy, bound the form to table/query etc. This way you are able to use the next/previous buttons like normal.

To create the combo box so you are able to jump to a certain record - cheat - use the access combo box wizard to acheive this for you.

Any issue let me know...

M8KWR, are you referring to the little next/previous triangles that can be displayed at the bottom of a form? I always turn those things off because they are a distraction. What I want to do is add nice, large buttons that say "Next" and "Previous" onto the form itself, near the combobox.

still the same then really, you can use the insert command button wizard to create these for you, unless you can insert the code yourself, depending on how advnaced you are really.

It will still all work the same whether or not you show or do not show the button down the bottom of the screen.

If you are not that advanced use the wizard to create the code for you, then you can see how it works then learn to modify the code to suit your program - its the way i have learnt, unsure if its the best practise mind you, but it has helped me out in tight situations i have caused myself...

If you are still unsure what i mean then please say, i can always create you a simply form and send it to you...
