Autoexec.ini 2

Not sure if this is the right place but does anyone have an example of how to create an autoexec.ini file that would autorun a usb memory stick (or jump drive)?

We have a presentation that we are loading and would like to autorun the flash projector file.

Normal autorun.inf (below) does not seem to work. After reading up I found comments on needing and autoexec.ini file.

Any ideas?

It is vastly more complicated. Most pen drives identify themselves to the operating system as removable ESDI drives; a classificiation that does not support autorun. The closest you can come without ordering custom pen drives (in large quantity) is to make the pen drive bootable. Then you program would run if the pen drive was inserted and the machine rebooted.

It details registry tweaks to select the drive types to start automatically.

Exactly the problem.
If you know of anyway to format the drive so that it appears as a autorun CD, please let us know.

I don't see the need to be sarcastic bcastner. The TID I posted has possibly a valid solution and if I had a pen drive on me I would test it.

Even if the TID worked TheLad it does me no good for what we are trying to do. We want to mass produce these and send them out. I need the files to just autorun.

We actually found a company that will preload and autorun, I guess they have some technology that gets around these issues.

have not played with it but, when you insert a flash drive the popup comes up with the "what do you want to do" window. seems to me that a regisrty entry might work to add "run a program". not sure but i might try to play around and see if that works.

slow day here so i might tinker with this

I did.

I was not sarcastic. You misunderstood the problem.
The "Holy Grail" of USB thumb drives is to figure out how to format them as autorun CD-Roms, or a fixed device that permits AutoRun.

Your contribution was not responsive. That was my only point.

This is hard and entering into sheer OS voodoo, because there is no documentation for how these devices are enumerated and how that enumeration could be changed.

I talked to the vendor who is going to mass produce the drives and said there is only one way to do this and it has something to do with creating another partition when the jump drive is inserted. At that time the contents of the drive can never be edited again. It was always auto launch as another partition.

Not sure if that is the "holy grail" or "end all-say all", but thats what he said.

From what I understand that is the "U-3" approach. I considered it for you but the usuable partition is small -- well under 8 megabytes if I mis-remember correctly.

Wouldn't have worked then. The total of drive files were at 30MB.
