Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to have the crystal reports automatically refresh when my database is updated. I took off the "Save Data With Report" option off, but this causes the report to open in design view instead of preview. Thanks in advance.

Jim L. Ellis

AFAIK, no such option within Crystal.

My DataLink Viewer (and perhaps other 3rd party Viewers (see list at: can be invoked via a desktop shorcut, a batch file, etc. to directly open and preview a given report with given parameters (info specified via command line arguments).

Cheers,

Of course, all you have to do is click the lightning bolt when you open the report, and then it previews with fresh data. This works whether you save it with or without data, but usually I recommend that you save it without data so that people aren't confused. Yes, I have over 50 crystal reports that are done daily and I am having to refresh each one manually. I just want them to refresh automatically without me having to hit the lighting bolt for each one.
Thanks,

Sounds like you need a report scheduler utility.
There are several such tools (including my Visual CUT) listed at:
Using such a tool you would be able to schedule the daily processing of these reports resulting in automatic exports (and optionally distribution via e-mails) to formats such as Crystal Report (with saved data), pdf, etc.

Ido is right - that way you don't even have to open them. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
