Is there a way to set an auto number to say this expression? ex:

year starting with t 2003 = T, 2004 = U etc. (by the time it gets to z my dad will be retired)

month Jan = F, Feb = G, Mar = H, Apr = J, May = K Jun = M
July = N, Aug = Q, Sept = U, Oct = V, Nov = X, Dec = Z
then -100 this number goes until it is reset the next month back to 100

If not possible, can vb just do it for a text box.

If you are wondering why this look like a old German Enigma machine encryption, hehe, the year stands for the years you have been trading, and months are the chicago board of trade month codes.

oh I for got what it should look like, dumb me!!

TJ-100 would be 2003, april, 1st, 1st entry
the -100 can goes as high as needed then restarts a gain at 100 the next month

TK-100 would be 2003, may, 1st, 1st entry

Sorry about the double post.

AutoNumber is just that -an "Auto" (incrementing) "Number". For customized Indicies, see faq700-154. You would have considerable work to implement your specific scheme and if it is not a multiuser db is may be a bit of an overkill, but the conceptual framework is all there.

Hey thanks Michael Red. I thought it would be one of those over the head type, I guess you cant' automate everything, Wait you can, but at what price. The cost overides the funds here. hehe. Thanks again
