I am trying to for a our users to "logoff" after a particular time of the day say 5 pm and if they have been idle for x amount of time.

I have users who work past 5 and if they are working, I don't want to kick them out and the people vary to greatly to monitor. I just want to kick them out if the time is after 5 pm and they are away from their desk for 30 minutes.

It is the two requirements that cause a problem. I know its possible through other means, but it is only one setting and not both.

Does anyone know of software out there or some registry setting that might allow that to work.

I don't know any way off hand to do exactly what you need other than scripting on your server.

However if you are just looking to prevent security problems from people going home while logged into the network you might use the windows screensaver and check the password box.

Otherwise your best bet is to hit the shareware sites for a utility.

Thanks..

We actually have several issues with users staying logged in overnight and cannot "force" them to do this without it doing it for them.

Problem with scripting is I don't know of an WMI or other interface idle timer that I can access....

HOW TO: Force Users to Quit Programs and Log Off After a Period of Inactivity in Windows XP

You can use Scheduled Tasks to monitor idle time.

Start, Run, secpol.msc Look for 'Force logoff when logon hours expire'

How do I restrict a User's Logon hours?

Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Scheduled Tasks. Under
Advanced/Settings/Idle Time (Only start... and Stop the task...).

You can schedule a task for inactivity. Use this to lock the
desktop after 10 minutes of idle time.

Use this shortcut for the task:

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe
user32.dll,LockWorkStation.

To log off and run the risk of having your programs end prematurely and
without saving any unsaved material, you could use the same scheduled
task command and replace the LockWorkStation with ExitWindows. That will
log off the currently logged on user.

To schedule a logoff procedure for XP, use this:
C:\Windows\System32\shutdown -l as the scheduled task.

The traditional way to do this is to use the WinExit screensaver. See the discussion here: thread779-756323
