You may use any brand of cleaning media as long as it meets the specifications for the drive. An 8mm DAT drive will require an 8mm cleaning tape, a Travan drive will require a Travan cleaning tape, etc...
This also applies for backups. You do not need to use any sort of "Avaya-branded" media. Do pick a decent quality, well-known brand, though.
