audio speeded up

Just installed windows 2000 on a compaq en which has a Soundmax soundcard, but all the audio is speeded up . Even the windows events sound all speeded up. I have verified the driver is correct and that it is the latest one. Has anyone seen this problem and solved it>?

Check if there is some software running that converts the audio. Just like EAX.

I have had this problem on my Dell here at work. I removed the sound card from the device manager and restarted the system and let Windows see the hardware and install the driers for me. That fixed my problem here. Good Luck!

Had the same problem on a Dell gx50 but installing the latest drivers from dell fixed it.

Thanks for your answers. Was unable to solve the problem in win 2000, so installed XP and it was fine. Thanks for your suggestions
