After a successful install, my audio inputs stopped working on my sound card. I have updated the drivers, rolled back the drivers, uninstalled the card, reinstalled the card and drivers with the latest and greatest and still no joy.
Clicking on the Recording Devices in Sounds in the Control Panel shows that the line in function is on and operating normally. However, I can't configure it and Aux, CD Audio, and Stereo Mix portions of the card read unavailable. Even though the line in says it's working, there is no input to my software. Mic input is the same story. The mixer shows the inputs but won't let me activate them.
I have a Mad Dog Multimedia 4.1 Prowler PCI audio card with the older mini phone jack inputs in an Intel D865PERL mother board. The sound card has separate jacks for the speakers and line in and mic inputs. Neither of the input sources are working.
I also have a Pinnacle DC10 video input card but I haven't tried it yet as I want to get the audio problem fixed first.
I am the manufacturer of the computer so there is no factory rep outside of myself to consult.
Any help would be appreciated.

What operating system have you upgraded from?

Anything showing in the Device Manager or Event Viewer?

Vista Business doesn't come with DVD playing software that Premium or Ultimate have.

I upgraded from XP Home.
I can play DVDs fine in media player as well as the third party players I already had installed. The OS just drops out of Areo and goes into basic mode when they are launched.
Device Manager shows the sound card and says that everything is operating properly. I just can't get the audio input I need.
I will check out the links you have provided and see if any of them help me out. It may take a couple of days but I will get back on the forum and let you know.

Thanks for the info so far.

So far right clicking on the volume icon in the Notification area shows all the devices and says they are unavailable. There are drivers loaded for them but I can't enable them or configure them. Line in says it is enabled and is working but I still get no audio in. Mic is the same though both mic and line in can't be enabled at the same time.
Aux, CD, and Stereo Mix all say unavailable. I am downloading the codecs and will see if they work.

Can you right-click on any currently unavailable device in that windows an select "set as default" just to see what happens?

What I have learned is this, I have to enable one device at a time on the recording devices menu when I right click the speaker icon in the task bar. At first, only mic and line in were shown but I selected "Display all Disabled Devices" viola, everything was there, just unavailable. I have to select which input I want and make it the default and it works.
It is a different way to access the items but at least now I have audio input.
Thank you Linney for all your help.
