Hello all

I asked a friend of mine for a bunch of music that he has so that I can put in on my .mp3 player. He's given me a DVD that contains at least 300+ songs but they aren't in .mp3 format. When I explore the contents of the DVD, I see the 2 folders that you'd see if you we're exploring the contents of an actual movie. Is there a way to change the file format on this DVD so that I can actually see the music as .mp3's?

Thanks in advance

can you be a bit more specific, do you anywhere see 300+ files with an extension other than .mp3 (like .wav etc.)?

When I insert the DVD, it comes up like a movie and I can see all of the trackssongs. When I explore the contents of the DVD, there are 2 folders (AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS). The audio folder is empty but the video folder has VOB, IFO & BUP files inside (the largest VOB file is approximately 1GB, there are 3 of those).

I'm told that the files were orginally in .mp3 format before the DVD was created.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the link.

The software worked to covert the .vob files into .mp3 format. Is there software that will convert each big ole .mp3 into single .mp3's? What I mean is each .vob was approximately 1.5GB in size so everything ripped into one large .mp3 file. I'm wondering if I can break that up so that I can get to each song individually.

Thanks for your help

This might be what you're looking for:

Click on features to read through them. It's trialware with a $30 purchase option. Assuming the DVD you have is organized into chapters/tracks for each song, then this software seems like it can extract each one and make a separate WAV file for each.

Realize that MP3's are compressed versions of the original music source. Some quality has already been lost in the process of making them. When you extract them onto your PC, you want to use an uncompressed format (such as WAV) to preserve whatever quality is left. Extracting into MP3 format, for example, is like compressing a compressed file which will only degrade it even more.

By choosing the start and end point visually, you can fine tune the selection of the source video file to extract into MP3.

Ben,
Does that mean you must choose the start and end point for each song? For 300+ songs, I would think that to be tedious. It would be best to use an automated process which is possible if each song is on its own track or chapter.

Yes, at this stage of development of the freebie (close to three years old), a little work is needed...

is it tedious? Yep, but them again the software is free...

now, that would takes all the fun out of it... :)... kidding aside, yes it would be possible and would definitely best...
