This problem just started happening last week. Nothing new has been loaded on pc. She's got win98 and outlook98.
She can open her own excel and word files with no problems.
But get an email with a file attachment, say, in excel. She double clicks it, excel opens, you see a blank gray screen,(like you normally do when excel opens) except it sits there on that screen, (no hour glass either), then after about 30 seconds it finally opens the document.
Any suggestions? I have loaded all patches and updates that could possibly be loaded.
HELP!!!!!!!!

If the attachments are large, sometimes it takes a while to get through the Modem? You may want to check how much space the computer has left on the Hard Drive also. Swap space could be running low. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

I doubt that it's because of a slow connection. Once you are able to see the attachment, it's probably already on your hard drive if you've got "personal folders" (PST) setup in your mail profile.

If excel and word files open quickly, but attachments that are appox the same size take a longer time, then it's probably Outlook. I've seen this many times before, and usually reinstalling Outlook does the trick. I highly recommend you upgrade to "Outlook 2K SR-1" if possible for better security.

If reinstalling doesn't work, then you'll want to check the size of your PST. Once they get above 1 GB in size, it starts causing all sorts of problems...

Thanks for the info. I should have been more clear. We are on a network, and the mail is on our server. There is no PST file. No onw else is having this problem except her.
I will try reloading outlook though as Cdogg suggested.

Since you're not working with a PST file, the I would definitely suspect Outlook as the problem. However, it is important to note that Office 97 and earlier will attempt to incorporate Outlook into its system settings. In other words, because Outlook acts as a part of Office, you may want to also try reinstalling Office 97 if reinstalling Outlook doesn't help...
