Hi:

I am having trouble with some of our users with Word97, when receiving email from other users who send Word2000 docs as attachments the Word 97 users only receive a blank copy of the memo form, the logo is at the top of the form but the body of the form is blank. Email client is Outlook.

Any ideas? Thanks

Maybe Word 97 can't understand the formatting of the Word 2000 documents? Try getting your users to save the documents as a lesser version. I haven't used Word 2000 in great detail so I can't tell you exactly how to do it.

Should be in File -> Save As... -> Save As Type -> Choose Lesser Version.

Try this and let me know if it helps.

Thanks for the response, I have actually tried that and to no avail, we still get the blank attachment. One other strange thing that occurs is that when the Word97 opens the attacment it counts the characters of the document and comes up with the correct number only it doesn't display them! Any other thoughts from OFFICE experts? I appreciate the help.

Does Word work OK anyway?

One option is to delete (or rename) normal.dot and get Word to recreate it. Then open the file in question and see what the results are.

Check the fAQ section on how to manage Word issues...

check !
- if the attached word2000 doc is open fine in word2000(in other PC).
- Delete temp files in the word97 user's PC.
- Try to open it, Launch Word97 -> File -> open and see if it is fine.
- Try to open it, [Insert] in Tools menu -> [File...] -> Select the file.
- Check the user's Word97 opens other word doc without any problems.

And let me know the result!

Make sure that the original file does not have the following option set:

Tools/Options/Save
Save Data only for forms.

If this is marked, the form would be blank, the words around the form fields would not be saved, and if the form had been saved with no entries, the whole thing would be blank.

Best Wishes,
AngO

Thanks for the many suggestions, I was finally able to read the whole form by opening the attachment (which appears blank except for the logo header) and then pulling down the "view" menu and selecting "normal," then all of the characters appeared.
