Hi,
I just installed the Kerio Personal Firewall 30-day eval version on my new XP Pro box, and at startup I get these multiple outbound TCP warnings from ATI Command Line Interface on various ports.

ATI is the graphics controller on my Intel MOBO. I noticed that it has a messload of entries in the system monitor when I look to see what processes (services?) are running. (I think half of the many dozens of entries in the list must begin with ATI...)

Why does the video controller need to open an outbound port, actually so many outbound ports, for a command line interface on an XP machine with a GUI?

There is nothing connected to the ethernet cable but the DSL modem. I haven't yet set up any network.

Should I just tell Kerio to make a rule allowing all of these? Or should I call ATI to ask them to spell out their privacy policy and have it notarized for me?

And why do I need to fuss with firewall rule(s) for the warning(s) that pop(s) up whenever I shut down?

It is part of the Catalyst Control Center which doubles as a driver and an updater. You can donload the version that has the Control Panel instead but it has less features.

trojanman,

Thanks, I'll check that out.

I'm becoming increasingly wary of (outraged by) programs that want to automatically 'update' themselves.

NOTE to all of you software manufacturers out there: If I want something updated, I'll update it, thanks. Now get your sticky, inquisitive hands off of my computer. (Microsoft, this especially means you.)

(If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you don't know that it's broke, then it ain't broke.)
