I just got an Athlon XP 2500+, and a AOpen AK77-600N Motherboard. When I run CPU-Z ( it reports my Multiplier is 11.0, but my FSB is only 100. I checked the BIOS and it says the highest I can change the FSB to is 129 .. which still isn't even close to what it should be. How can I increase the FSB to 166? Any help is appreicated!

There is a second setting in the BIOS to set the fsb to 166MHz.

I looked around the BIOS some more, I couldn't find any option to explictly set the FSB to 166. If the option is there, it's dimmed out so I can't select it. I looked at the manual, and it says there's a jumper that I can set to change the FSB to 100/133/166/200. Should I try to set it to 166 using this? Also, how can I make sure my RAM can handle 166?

What kind of RAM do you have?

Some motherboard, like mine, have spearate FSB settings for the RAM and CPU. Is there a "DRAM Timing" or "RAM Bus" setting or something similar in the BIOS with options similar to 100/133/166 or 200/266/333?

I looked at CPU-Z's Memory screen, it says DDR-SDRAM PC2700 - 512 MB. Frequency says 133.3 MHz, although I don't know if this is the limit of the memory, or just what it's currently set to. FSB:DRAM says FSB+33 MHz, which would be 100+33. There was an option in the BIOS to set the DRAM Timing manually, but the only option was 266.

DDR-SDRAM PC2700's recommended max frequency is 166Mhz.

Lift the lid and have at look at the current settings - they're probably set to a FSB frequency of 133MHz. If so, change the jumpers/switches to 166 and the necessary figures should appear in the BIOS settings when you next boot up.

With a fixed multiplier of 11 and FSB of 166MHz, your processor will run at about 1.83GHz.

Yes, PC2700 RAM runs at 166MHz/333MHz, which is what your CPU is meant to run at, so set the FSB of both to 166/333MHz.

Thanks a ton! I changed the jumper, and my comp is now running at the speed it's supposed to :p I'd figured the guys I bought the thing from would've set the thing to 166 for me, but I guess not!
