athlon 266mhz bus cheaper than 200mhz bus?

why is the 1.4 gigahert t-bird athlon 266mhz like 20 dollars cheaper than the 200mhz bus? isnt 266mhz bus suposed to be a lot faster?

on some websites the 266 mhz is 40 bucks cheaper than the 200 mhz

Oh and also....if i had a 200 mhz fsb mobo...can i use a 266 mhz fsb cpu on the mobo? and change the settings to 200 mhz...so incase i ever upgrade to a 266 fsb mobo i would already have the cpu for it!

Cheaper! just because they are making more 266 chips than 200's. 200's will become a more difficult to get hold of over the next few months as production switches even more in favour of the 266 variety.
266 fsb chip in a 200 board< I don't think so!!
easiest way to check is if you have a moby in mind go to it's manufactures website, look at it's specs and it will state which processors are compatible with it! Martin

Like Martin said, it's simply a matter of supply and demand. When you have less supply, but close to the same demand, prices naturally go up regardless of the type of product in question...

*note: Newer motherboards are being manufactured with the faster bus since all the newer chips by AMD support 266 FSB.
