i just put together a computer for a friend with an msi kt4av mobo and an athlon 2600+ cpu. the bios doesn't automatically recognize the cpu speed so, in the bios, i set the bus at 133 and the mult at 14 which gave me 1.9 ghz which is what i think the chip runs at. only, at that setting, the comp won't even kick on the monitor and i have to clear the cmos to get back into the computer. am i doing something wrong and if so, what. thx, maxwell

Usually these boards assume DDR, so try setting your board to a setting of 133 x 8. 7.5 will set it to 1995mhz or 2400+ so the next up would be a clock multiplier of 8.

Which XP2600+ are you running? 266fsb or 333fsb?
What are you using for memory?

Oh yeah, I didn't realize they had made it in 333mhz. That will certainly matter.

jsauce:
i tried 133/8 and the same thing happened - i had to clear the cmos again to get back into the computer.

i'm running 2 512mg ddr400. when you say 266 or 333 does that mean that i'm setting the wrong bus with 133. i don't know whether its 266 or 333 but what settings would i use for both. i'll try one, then the other.

thx

mainegeek - i guess i didn't understand what you were saying - the fsb on the mobo is 333.

closing thread - set the bus to 166 and the mult to auto and the comp recognized the cpu as a 2600+ :0) thx jsauce and mainegeek. maxwell
