ATA2 receive a 2nd call?

Norstar MICS and ATA2. Is there some way you can receive a 2nd call using an ATA2 and then conference the 2 outside callers together? They want to use a conference phone and have outside callers call in instead of the conference phone making the calls.

Also, yourself and 2 other calls are the max for a conference, right?

i believe you can not recieve a second call... conference if you initiate second call should work fine

Should be FLASH 2, no feature key on analog sets. Also need to set 2 intercoms under line access.

Flash(Link) +2 will answer the 2nd call. Flash(Link)+*+3 completes the conference

In a Nortel branded conf unit, the flash key is labeled as feature key - otherwise like phoneguy said use flash 2

Conference works if done correctly but there's still no way to take a second call with a single ATA as far as I know. Then again, I haven't tried it on anything newer than my 5.0 MICS.

The correct procedure for setting up a conference call on an ATA/500 set is to establish or answer the first call, place caller on hold by pressing flash key (or the link button or do a hookswitch flash) and dial 2. You should get a second dial tone at which point you would establish your second call and then press the flash key plus * 3 to start your conference.

Since this is one of those things most of us only run into once in a blue moon, and since I couldn't even remember the last time I tried it, I went ahead and tried it right here, right now and I can't get any type of indication of a second incoming call. Both lines are programmed to ring only on that set, dnd on busy is set to no, no fwd busy or fna dns defined and set is not forwarded or in dnd mode. One thing I haven't tried is putting my call on hold and doing a call pick up when I hear other sets ringing. Now that I think about it though, that SHOULD work like a champ!

Just for grins, is anybody here able to try these tricks on something newer than 5.0?

Many Norstar features can be activated from an ATA set by substituting the "feature button" with the flash key and then a * .

The conference phone on the ATA could receive the first call.

Suppose the second call came in to the receptionist, etc, who then parked it (presuming you have park set up). The conference phone could then pick up the parked call and join it with the first. That might make the users happy.

I couldnt see any way to receive the 2nd call either. I can make outgoing conference calls, no problem, but they wanted to receive them. I told the customer no. Thanks all for your input.

I too thought the ATA2 (empahsis on the "2") was a 2-port device. I sold a customer 4 analog ports for 3 fax machines and a conference phone on a MICS 6.1 system. I intended to furnish only two ATA2s.
This thd seems to be saying I need four ATA2s?
Is the "2" for 2nd generation or 2nd version or just for decoration?

Introduction
Northern Telecom is pleased to announce the availability of the Analog Terminal Adapter-2, effective June 3, 1996.

The Norstar ATA-2 replaces the current EATA serving as an interface between the Norstar digital station set ports and analog tip-plus-ring devices This allows existing equipment such as modems, answering machines and analog telephone sets to operate on the Norstar business communication systems.

Norstar's Analog Terminal Adapter-2 introduces additional functionality to Norstar analog connectivity. It has all the functionality of the current Norstar EATA plus increased data transmission speeds to meet the changing market requirements of increased information flow.

Product Overview

The ATA-2 is compatible with all Norstar software releases and offers access to many of the features available on those software versions. Like the current EATA, the ATA-2 also provides a means of connecting a single line set to the Norstar system in either a long loop or off-premise extension configuration.

Physical Description

The ATA-2 is housed in a sealed plastic unit designed for wall mounting. Two RJ-11 jacks allow for quick installation: one for the Norstar digital telephone port connection and one for analog device connection. The ATA-2 is powered via a grounded AC power supply which is included with the ATA-2.

The enclosure for the ATA-2 will be a new design. It has a smaller footprint (approximately 2/3 size) and lower profile (height) than the existing ATA enclosure. The base of the shell has four rubber supports (feet) located near each of the four corners in order to facilitate desktop installations.

Size

The ATA-2 has the following dimensions:

Width: 140 mm

Weight
The ATA-2, excluding the wall transformer and cables, weighs 400 grams.

Color

The plastic shell of the ATA-2 is Dolphin (light) gray, consistent with the rest of the Norstar portfolio. The bezel which is visible from the back of the unit is also Dolphin gray.

Wall Mounting

The ATA-2 may be wall mounted using slots in the base of the plastic shell. It may be mounted horizontally with the connectors facing up or down, or vertically with the connectors facing to the left or to the right.

Connectors

The ATA-2 has three connectors, all of which are accessed through the bezel in back of the unit.

a 6-pin 2 conductor RJ-11 modular jack (female) for connection to the TCM loop of the KSU
a 6-pin 2 conductor RJ-11 modular jack (female) conforming to FCC Rules for connection to the analog interface; and
a 5 pin, 3 -conductor DIN jack (female) for connection to the external 24 VAC power supply
Connection of the ATA-2 analog interface to the network for off-premise extensions and tie lines shall follow the country-specific wiring regulations as described in the relevant KSU hardware product specification.
Enhancements

The Norstar ATA-2 supports all features currently supported by the EATA as well as the following enhancements:

The ATA-2 has faster data transmission speeds than the EATA (max. 9600 kb/s). When used with the ATA-2, the Norstar system has been shown to support data transmission rates of up to and including 28.8 kb/s.
Note: The maximum data transmission rate is subject to the quality of the end-to-end channel and cannot be guaranteed.

Mean Time Between Failure

The mean time between failure for the ATA-2 is approximately 403 years.

Installation

The Norstar ATA-2 is easily installed on any Norstar station port. The ATA-2 is usually wall-mounted adjacent to the Key Service Unit. The ATA-2 comes with two RJ-11 jacks with allows for quick installation: one for connection to a Norstar station port and for one connection to the analog device. The ATA-2 is powered via a grounded AC power supply which is included with the ATA-2. Figure 1.0 provides an example of a typical analog device connection to the Norstar system via the ATA-2.

After the Norstar ATA-2 is installed, programming for the unit will have to be administered via the Norstar system programming procedures. Once administered, Norstar features can be accessed by a single line phone through the ATA-2, simply using LINK key (if phone is equipped) or hook flash along with one or two digit code.

Compatibility

The ATA-2 is compatible with all versions of Norstar software. However, if the ATA-2 is installed on DR1 or DR2, then it will function like the original version of the ATA. With the exception of StarTalk’s Open Mailbox (Link * 981) and Leave Message (Link * 980) commands, feature codes in the range 900-999 cannot be accessed by the ATA-2.

We do this all the time.
Get your first call onto the conference phone.

Then get the second incoming call on another line/ phone.
Park it using code Feature 74. The display on the handset/phone will show you where the call is parked (usually 101 if there are no other parked calls).
On the conference phone, place call on hold and get a new line using Flash 2.
You should get a new dial tone at this point. If you dial 101, you will retrieve the parked call.
Flash *3 will join the new call with the original call you placed on hold.

As far as I know the limit is 2 external callers plus yourself.
