ATA/100 controller, how do i tell if my mb supports this?

Hi all,
I've inheritted a 1.7ghz, 256mb ram, clone without any hard drives or documentation at work. I would like to buy a large fast (ata/100 or ata/133)drive for this beast. How can I tell what type of interface this thing supports?

Any markings on the board? Can you tell who made it?

Just a guess, but if it has a 1.7ghz cpu then for sure it will handle 100, the question will be 133 or not.

Another thing to look at is the chipset on the board, it might be covered with a fan, but maybe you can get that number off of it.

Of course, if you are buying a new hard drive for it, get a 133mhz drive. They will work in older motherboards, they will just run slower. Some drives have a special jumper you need to set for slower speeds, but they will work.
That way when you upgrade the board the hard drive will be fast enough for your new one.

So you're good for ATA 100 HD controller and PC133 RAM.
