Hey All!

Happy sunday =]

I had a question... I own an Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Mobo which had a celeron processor and has been working right for about a year. Yesterday I purchased a P4 3ghz processor to speed it up. I also bought a new ATX case. I put all the previous components (2x 512mb ram, ATI Radeon 9600xt AGP, Audigy 2 Soundcard, 200gb HD, floppy & 2 optical drives). the only thing that changed was the processor & the case. Now when I power on I hear everything turn on but there is no video signal. I have also tried another video card and the same deal. I also now hear a very slight clicking, which i think is from the HD ... =[. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
Ramon

Alright first i would advise resetting your bios. Be sure power is unhooked before doing so. Then if that dont work take out your ram and try it one chip at a time. I had something like this happen once and it was a bad ram chip.

Ram0135,

Start by un-connecting all items HD CD/DVD everything with the exception of one stick of ram the processor and the video(onboard or card) and try booting to bios.

If this fails, remove the mobo onto something insulative (Static mat, newspaper?) and try to boot to bios. If this is a success watch your standoffs in the case as there could/is a short of some type.

This provides no joy, post back with results, i.e. beep codes etc.

Thank you electronicsfreak & rvnguy for your input. I did erase the CMOS RAM and still nothing. And I stripped out everything but the video card, CPU, and one stick of RAM (i alternated b/w the two) and still no video signal. If anyone can provide any more advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Im pretty sure your ram is bad. See if you can borrow a stick that is the same type as yours like pc3200 just to test for a few seconds see if it loads up. Make sure the one you borrow is working. If it loads then you know for sure what the problem is. If not then im guessing you probally have a faulty board.

Did you unplug the IDE cables from the MoBo or just from the drives?

Is the GFX card seated correctly? just a notch off and no go on POST...

Check if the HS-Fan is plugged in correctly, ie. the right header... cuz, when a mobo powers up it looks to see if it gets a signal from the HS-FAN, if none there, then no POST...
for testing purposes, hook another HS-FAN onto the header...

I went ahead and got another stick of RAM compatible with my MOBO and same thing. No go no post no beeps etc.. I also did unplug the IDE cables from the mobo and not just the drives. the GFX card is seated properly, I made sure of this. And the Heatsink fan is plugged in along with the P4 connector. Thank you electronicsfreak & Ben. I appreciate it.

Take the bord out of the case, connect it up with only one stick of ram, no drives etc. Start it by shorting the switch pins on the mainbord, should be ok now. If not possible processor us. Try then to run with the old processor.
Good luck

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback, I greatly appreciate it =].

It turned out that the Pentium 4 Processor is defective. The Previous processor worked fine and the new one did not. I am going to return the processor and hopefully that will help.

Thanks!

Glad you found the culprit, and hope that the New P4 will work for you...
