This board has 3 DIMM slots, my question is do I need to fill them all? I have 2 256MB sticks of RAM and I'm wondering if that will work. Otherwise I have to buy 3 128MB sticks? OR, could i do 2 256MB and 1 128MB?

Another question:

Is there an easy way to tell if a motherboard requires that each DIMM slot be filled? Because I know that my Asus P4T board requires that all slots are filled and each bank has to be identicle.

thanks in advance

DDR Ram,you do not have to fill all slots or pair them. P4 is a different story RD Ram must be use in pairs. Hope this helps.

You can install 1, 2, or 3 PC2100/1600 DDR SDRAM DIMMs up to 1GB each in the A7V266-E motherboard.

You can also mix module capacities. (i.e. 2-256MB and 1-128MB is OK)

All this information is available in the motherboard's manual.

The P4T motherboard uses RAMBUS RDRAM which is different than DDR SDRAM.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

You shouldn't have any problems with just 2 sticks of 256MB of DDR SDRAM. However, one other thing you might want to consider is what operating system you are going to install. If you're going to be using Windows 95/98/ME, then you'd be better off just with just one 256MB stick. Anything more than 320MB of RAM in one of these OS's can cause stability problems. If installing Windows NT, 2000, or XP, it's ok...

Great. Thanks for the help.
