I've read you can hit the FNC key and button 3 to cycle through the various ringtones that are in the NEC ETJ-16DC phones but is there a way you can assign specific ringtones for say, all internal calls and another for external calls?

Yes. What kind of NEC phone system do you have?

YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE THE MODULATION FOR INCOMING CALL ON A NEAX 2000 IPS

Yes, that is what we are running. NEAX 2000 IPS.

You'll have to find a command manual and read CM08>392, 396 and 397 and CM3533>RT, where RT=The incoming route.

The ring interval is assigned with CM 3533 and the actual tone type is assigned with the different combernations of 3534 and 35164. You should play around with both till you find the one you like. There's even a door chime combination for those looking for a door box ring.

Ummm... I have personal lines and business lines on an old Elite 48 at home, and I have different ring tones depending on which line is ringing.

And our old 200 IVS (even before we upgraded to the IPS) had a shorter cadence for internal calls, and a longer one for external calls.

Just my 2¢

Sorry... that should have been 2000 not 200..... :(

I found the command manual for the 2000 IVS and i'm assuming it should be the same with the IPS? In anycase, I couldn't dins CM08 and 392 through 396. There's a gap between 391 (Lamp Indication on Multiline Terminal) to 400.

I did find the following info if I searched for internal or external ring tones.

No. 04
Meaning Ringing Tone
Data 0-1499
Meaning Calling Number Development Table Number assigned by
CMDC
0 Depends on CM35 YY=33
1 Not used
2 Internal Ringing Tone
3 External Ringing Tone

Change CM 35164 to a 0 for your incoming trunk route and your incoming trunk calls will sound NOTHING like the internal station calls.

AHh okay I found the sheet. So I see data numbers from 0 to 3 (with corresponding values of Hz) on CM 3534. So there are only 4 different tones?

There are 8.
3534 has 4 tones and then after you set 35164 to a 0 it changes the 4 tones in 3534 to another 4 different tones.
Hope this makes sense.

I think its all starting to fall into place, heh. Thanks so much for your patience. My last question, CM3534 changes tone for incoming trunk calls (I'm assuming this is calls coming in from external) and what about calls made internally?

Calls internal are not effected by 3534.
Calls internal change by pressing Feature 3.
