I am currently using Arcserve 6.61 including the Tape Library Option and the Enterprise Library Option on an NT server-I am backing up using a DLT Tape library which includes 28 tapes. My goal is to keep 30 days worth of full backups which I am running Monday through Friday. I created a media pool and assigned all of the tapes to it with an retention time of 30 days. Once those first 28 tapes were all full I went ahead and created a second media pool, put 28 new tapes in my DLT tape library, and intended on assigning all of them to that pool. Computer Associates walked me through the process the first time and I remember that there was some way that you can select all of the tapes at once and achieve this but I don't know how and I can't find any documentation on how to do this. Anyone know how to do this?
At this point I'm running into troubles because initially when I setup the second media pool I wound up formatting one tape and choosing the option through the media pool manager to add it to the scratch set. For the next fifteen days the media pool simply took blank tapes in my tape library and added them to the scratch set and my backups went fine. However twice in the last week I discovered that I had backups that didn't run because there were no media in the scratch set so the Media Pool has stopped taking the blank tapes and assigning them-why I have no clue. The media pool manager is not letting me assign these unformatted tapes to the scratch set-doesn't show them as available media. If I format the tapes then they show up as available. I appreciate any comments or suggestions people can give me.
