We are having a copier demonstrated that can connect directly to network. Installer asked for a free IP. I checked my DHCP leases and 192.168.0.50 was free and manually assigned on the copier. My DHCP scope is 192.168.0.2-99. I am unable to ping the copier. I tried assigning 192.168.0.102 to the copier and still unable to ping. Is this an authentication issue or security issue with Win2k Server DHCP? I thought that as long as I assigned IP in the same subnet I could ping? I probably should reserve the copier static address?

Thanks.

if you can ping other nodes on that network, then you should be able to ping the copier. did the installer give the copier the correct subnet mask?

The installer came back and tried to connect to copier with his laptop and failed. I think there is a problem with the network NIC. Subnet mask is correct.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some security issue with Windows 2k DHCH.

Thanks.

Check that the copier has the same subnet mask as specified in your DHCP scope. You should be able to print a configuration page from the copier to confirm what its network settings are. You may also want to check some fundamentals like is the network socket live, is the CAT5 cable good, is everything seated properly etc. You can always set the copier to optain an address from your DHCP server for the test.

Thanks.

I had checked the simple things first yesterday. Anyway the tech came, used his laptop with a crossover connection and it worked. Then reset to my subnet and connected to my LAN and it works. So I have no idea what happened yesterday.

Anyway it works.

Thanks.
