Hi,

I am running Winows 2003 Enterprise Server and doing some testing I have installed a WDC WD800JD-08LSA0 Serial ATA Drive. When copying or using any fuctions on Serial ATA drive the CPU spikes to 100% and it takes 26 Minutes to copy a 4 GB file.

I did a second test on IDE interface with a 7200RMP drive Western Digital. no spike and time to copy was 7 Minutes more inline with connection 100MB Full duplex.

I am running driver 5.1.2600.104 for VIA...

Any ideas why this is like this and also does this support SATA level 2 or legacy SATA1.

Make sure that SCSI is enabled in the BIOS boot order option when the SATA drive is installed, and that DMA is checked in Device Manager.

Issue resolved...there is two ways to Configure SATA on this BIOS...RAID and Non-RAID Plug and Play...

However...setting up for RAID with a RAID 0 configure allows for loading a SATA driver update from VIA that updates SATA/Microsoft driver date from 2003 to 2005.

This caan be done without any reformating of drive and now IO and cpu usage has returned to normal and speed has increased on writes...I think there SATA Plug and Play hot swappable feature is not ready for prime time...
