I know that there are a number of posting about not being able to get ASP running on XP Professional with IIS 5.1; my working knowledge of IIS is at the point of knowing just enough to get myself in trouble.

Can someone explain how i can get .asp working with XP Professional with IIS 5.1.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

How far did you get? Is IIS running?

If you drop a plain HTML file named default.htm in folder \inetpub\ and then type 127.0.0.1 in the browser address bar... does it load the page?

Ok - IIS is running. Can run the htm code. Get the page not found on the asp. Have uninstalled and reinstalled IIS.
Have removed the COM+ and re-ran the install.
Have added the server extentions.

Use the IIS Administration tool, right click your root web and choose "Properties" from the context menu... this will bring up a properties tabbed dialog box... Look at the bottom half of the first tab that you see... notice the buttons along the lower right... how are they labeled?

Open Internet Services Manager

Open the properties of your website
Go to the tab called Home Directory

Make sure execute permissions are set to scripts only

make sure the application protection is set to medium pooled

Ensure your default asp page is added to the documents tab

Check that you have .net framework installed (windows update)

My Home Directory on IIS is set to
A dorectory located on thsi computer
Local Path is C:\Inetpub\Script source access, Read, Log Visit, and Index this resource checked
Application name is Default Application
Execute Permission is Scripts only
Application Protection are reset from Medium to Low.
