In our ARS tables the Caribbean area codes are set up so that they are denied or require a higher FRL. I was wondering if most new tables are still set up like this and what is the reason to deny them?

Telephone Fraud capital of the world from what I hear and read. Open them if you do business with them if not keep them locked down.

There is a list of Caribbean area codes which will charge you like the old 900 numbers.

Traditionally the 1809 area code as previously pointed out is a HAVEN for toll fraud.

The scheme works like this:

You get a voice mail message telling you that you've won something big, or that an old friend has been trying to reach you. They leave their phone number which is 1809xxx-xxxx for you to call back.

Since it's a pretty normal looking telephone number (10 digits, not 1900) you call it...not realizing it CAN function just like a 1900 number only with even HIGHER per minute rates.

The person on the other end answers the call and just keeps talking enough gibberish at you to keep you on the line as long as possible.

So on my PBX I deny ARS entry 1809 and allow specific telephone numbers as needed.
